Kunstverein Oberwallis 2019, Galerie zur Matze, Stockalperschloss Brig, Switzerland
spatial audiocomposition for 16 speakers powered by electric fence, wool, concrete, isolators and series of photographs
The transmedia installation Hohlicht is situated in relation to visual and cultural constructions of the Valais Alps, including notions of Alpine idyll and regional identity.
Points of departure for the work include folk musical practices such as yodelling as well as historical forms of landscape painting associated with the region. These references are treated as cultural materials rather than as representations of a fixed or unified tradition.
The installation was developed site-specifically for Galerie Zur Matze at Stockalperschloss in Brig. It combines spatial, sculptural, sonic, and photographic elements into a layered environment.
In collaboration with local yodel clubs, vocal recordings with differing timbral qualities were produced. These recordings are distributed across an eight-channel speaker system integrated into a large-scale spatial structure combining wool-based drawing elements and electric fence material.
The work explores the relationship between sound, spatial arrangement, and cultural imagery associated with Alpine landscapes. Rather than reproducing these associations, it treats them as mediated constructs that are reorganised within the exhibition space.
